The clients’ requirement was an economical solution for a spacious and well-lit house. The site was 60’*40’ in dimension in the suburbs of Bangalore. The design was done in an “L- shape” with a garden occupying the void of the “L” in the northwest corner. Its an open plan design with no internal walls except for the bedrooms and the toilets.
In the elevation one can see a large cantilever slab, which was a resultant of avoiding pillars in the carpark, made to look as a horizontal member cutting through the vertical mass on the left. To give vernacular touch to the modern elevation, cleanly dressed laterite stones were used against grey shades of the walls.
